Farewell letter – The meaning of life… professionally speaking

Tomorrow, it will be seventeen years since I started an internship at TVI. It wasn’t my top choice for an internship (I first went to an interview at Sporting, where I wasn’t accepted (probably because I was too eager to represent by football club). Oftentimes, our life is made of second bests and I ended up at TVI. In a way, it was nearly the same, as TV channels and football clubs are quite alike in that there are three big ones in Portugal and everyone likes one of them best.

I witnessed from up close what was probably one of the most remarkable moments of TV in Portugal – the rise of TVI. It started with the debut of Big Brother and continued with the reappearance of Portuguese soap operas, the creation of the Morangos com Açúcar phenomenon, the revolution the acting industry in Portugal, the rise to fame of various TV presenters, the memorable parties and so much more…

Then the digital age started dominating the world and also my work in particular, and I spent several years working with the brands and projects of Media Capital Digital (a.k.a. IOL).

In the meantime and at TVI, I also found emotional fulfillment with Carolina and our three children.

I am very happy to have lived all this for almost 17 years and I am really excited about what is coming next.

I could not but thank all those who in some way or another made my (professional) life so meaningful.

André
